Oops, I never got around to writing my blog post last week. Well, that was purely a product of exhaustion, and not in any way a comment on the quality of the episode. I mean, come on, it was a Ben Linus episode! It HAD to be good! This definitely should be Michael Emerson's Emmy entry. So, of course, I loved it. I loved seeing our Island manipulator/ megalomaniac transformed into a stifled public school history teacher. I loved seeing his sideways relationship with young, promising Alex Rousseau. I loved his self-doubt about his own leadership potential. I loved that he had a more positive relationship with Roger, even as they reminisced about their time on-Island with Dharma. I loved his relationship with good old Arzt.
And on the Island? Wow, did I love Ben's breakdown with Ilana, his admission that he was going to follow Flocke because no one else would have him, and Ilana's invitation to rejoin Team Jacob. When Ben Linus is on the screen, I am just mesmerized. Amazing work, Mr. Emerson.
And... dah-dah-dahhhhhhh..... get ready for Charles Widmore! I can't wait!
